There's been a lot of chat about how artificial intelligence, or AI, might change how films are made. You might imagine computers churning out the next big blockbuster. But so far, despite all the hype, we haven't really seen any major movies that have been fully created by AI that people are clamouring to watch.

It seems that while AI can do some clever things, like generate short clips or help with special effects, the creative magic needed for a compelling story and believable characters is still very much a human touch. Think about it – a good movie needs heart, nuance, and a real understanding of human emotions, which AI struggles with. It can't yet capture the subtle layers that make a film truly great.

The real issue isn't whether AI can make *something*, but whether it can make *something good* that audiences will pay to see. At the moment, AI models tend to produce content that feels a bit generic or lacks that unique sparkle. Filmmakers are experimenting, of course, but they're using AI more as a tool to assist, rather than a replacement for, human creativity.

This means that for the foreseeable future, directors, writers, and actors won't be out of a job because of AI. Instead, AI might become another handy tool in their kit, helping with tasks like early concept visualisation or digital cleanup, freeing up artists to focus on the truly creative parts. So, don't expect to see an AI-generated *Avatar* or *Mad Max* anytime soon.

Why it matters

This matters because it shows that even in creative industries, human ingenuity remains irreplaceable, reassuring those worried about AI taking all jobs. For small businesses in creative fields, it highlights how AI could be a helpful assistant rather than a threat.
